Daily Health Tips: How many servings of fruit should I take daily?

Q: How much fruit should I eat in a day?
Q: What fruits are the best to eat?

A: Fruits are part of a healthy diet and everyone should have at least 5 servings in a day. However, fruits are also high in sugars (fructose) and this has been linked to weight gain and chronic diseases like Diabetes Mellitus. Ordinarily, this fructose shouldn’t be a problem, but the thing is with our love for a ‘sugar rush’, people are getting even more sugar from other sources apart from fruits. Cumulatively, this sugar load becomes a problem.

Some fruits have more sugar content than others. The following fruits have been arranged in increasing order of their sugar contents: Blackberries, strawberries, apples, pineapples, oranges, bananas. grapes. This means that blackberries have less fructose than strawberries and strawberries have less than apples etc.

Some fruits are considered super fruits because they are full of vitamins, minerals, anti-oxidants and fiber which work together to keep you healthy and even prevent diseases. Some of these super fruits are: apples, bananas, blackberries, blueberries, cherries, oranges, lemon, lime, grapefruit, watermelon, pineapples, pawpaw etc.

So, now you know 😀

Have a great week everyone.
