pls if a guy has a pot belly and he does not drink alcoholic drink.what can he do to the pot belly

    Like

    • Hello Aderemi, unfortunately, it is not only beer that gives you a pot belly. Any excess calorie from any source, alcohol food etc can potentially be stored around the belly…perhaps more in men than women especially as they get older. So, watching your diet and other sources of excess calories (like processed fruit juices, no matter how often ‘they’ tell you that it is ‘sugar free’) that you consume would be a good idea. Let me throw you a challenge, if you went on a smoothie diet for three days (that is, take only blended fruit juices for 3 days), you will be amazed at how much flatter your tummy would be. Remember though, that even this is not a magic solution; if you’ve got a really big belly, it will also take a really long time to get the job done! 😀

But it is one step at a time. Focus on cutting down your portions. Use a smaller plate than you ordinarily would use. Half of it should be filled with fresh vegetables, a quarter with protein and a quarter with carbohydrate. So if you want to eat swallow, a fist size of wheat meal, half a plate of vegetables and perhaps fish.

      • Hello Prince, weight loss is a lot of self control and unfortunately includes the duo of diet and exercise. Exercise does not necessarily have to involve going to the gym. She should just incorporate it into her day: climb stairs instead of use elevators, stop at a bus stop close to the house or pack a little distance from the house and walking the rest of the way instead of stopping right in front of the house etc. With all these, she’ll be on her way to weight loss

Hi, Dr Ketch, thank you for the wonderful job that you are doing in people’s life. God bless you. My question is this: Is it possible for a person’s heart to palpitate regularly and the person is not hypertensive?

    Like

    • Hello Kunle, the causes of palpitations could be serious or mundane and range from anxiety/panic attacks, use of stimulants like caffeine, in pregnancy and in heart failure. However, by and large, unless accompanied by chest pain, dizziness and faintness, they would be transient and pass quickly. However, it is always better to err on the side of caution and so if you have been having palpitations, please see your doctor for a proper diagnosis. Better safe than sorry

Hello Dr. Is so nice knowing this site where I could chat one on one with you. If am few weeks pregnant. Will taking cold medicines be harmful to my unborn baby.

    Like

    • Hello Chika, remember that every drug is a potential toxin. So while pregnant, you don’t want to ingest anything that may pose a danger to your baby. At all times, the potential benefits of the drug you are taking has to be weighed against the pitfalls. For instance, if your cold is viral, you don’t need any drug because the infection is usually self limiting and this means that it will run its course, stay as long as it wants to and then quietly disappear with or without you taking any drug. All you need at that time is just supportive therapy in terms of warm drinks, soups and fruits/veggies. So, though some drugs are approved for use during pregnancy, if you don’t need to use them, please stay off them

And my mother in laws are blaming me saying its becos I need give her what am suppose to give in time. Just becos I never let them give her water or anything else except from breast milk dat I give until after 6month. Now anything that happens they blame me. Pls, what do I do? I don’t want to believe dats the cause? Or could it be? Pls help me out

    Like

    • Hello Shukriyyah, thanks for writing in. You did the very beat thing by exclusively breastfeeding your baby and giving no water. The older generation sometimes find this difficult to understand as they feel water should be taken after each meal…even if it’s breast milk. Usually, a baby should be crawling between 7 to 10 months, but the truth is some babies skip this step totally. Provided your baby is using all limbs normally and equally on both sides, you may not need to worry. You should only consider getting professional opinion if by the time the baby is one year old, this is still a problem. So enjoy your baby and reap the benefits of exclusive breastfeeding 😀

Hi Dr ketch, I do have issues everytime I finish M̶̲̥̅Ɣ menstruation. I noticed that d whole space where the sanitary pads covers gets itchy and sometimes swell a little.. Sometimes,it doesn’t go until the next menstrual period. I have tried a lot of antibiotics and it still did not go.. I hope it isn’t cancer…*panicking*

    Like

    • 🙂 Don’t panic. Usually the symptoms you describe would happen if you do not change your sanitary towels often…it now chaffs against your skin and causes the irritation and itching. So, for your next period, try and change your pads more often and let’s see how that goes. In between periods, do you see cheesy (egusi-like) discharge? This could be the cause of your itching. You could check out the itching by going for a swab. All the best

What do I do Ma,can’t statisfy my wife on bed.premature ejaculation

    Like

    • Hello Prince, I was so sure I’d answered this before. For premature ejaculation, you can hold off actual sexual intercourse for a while and concentrate on other forms of sexual play for a while. Hopefully, this takes pressure off you. Another thing you and your partner could do is the squeeze test. When you feel the urge to ejaculate prematurely, you or your partner can press the area between the glans of your penis (the tip) and the shaft. This can delay the urge to ejaculate for a little while. Then hold off further sexual stimulation for a little while before you continue. If these don’t work, there are drugs that can be used. You should speak with your doctor for those.

Hello DR,am a nursing mom and I want to reduce my weight.how do I start it.

    Like

    • Hello Florence, Weight loss is first all about self control and delayed gratification. You have to really focus on this journey…because it is a journey and not a destination. There are 3 things that should form part of your early toolkit. You can add on other things as you move along. First, reduce your portion size. Reduce the size of the plate you normally eat with and ensure that you fill half of it with veggies, a quarter with protein and a quarter with carbs. Then, exercise. At least 30 minutes of exercise, be it walking, dancing or using the treadmill,on at least 5 days of every week, is helpful. Finally reduce your stress level as this contributes to deposition of fat around the tummy.

Boiled potatoes with stir fried tomatoes and onions, boiled brown/local rice with sardines etc. Try different variations of meals and see how she responds. Remember she’s learning to adapt to other tastes except breast milk. A little at a time.

Portion control refers to the amount of food you take at a time. Reduce the size of your plate and then fill half the plate with fruits and veggies, a quarter of the plate with complex carbs and the last quarter with proteins. Then aim for at least 30 minutes of exercise on most days of the week. This can be walking, dancing etx
