“Doctor…my due date is almost here and I’m still not making any breast milk. Does this mean I won’t be able to breastfeed?”
If you’ve been worrying about this…
Take a deep breath.
It’s Breastfeeding Month, Day 1!
Many women never see a single drop of milk before delivery and still go on to breastfeed successfully.
Your breasts begin preparing for breastfeeding early in pregnancy, but every woman’s body is different. Some notice a little yellowish colostrum before birth, while others don’t see any milk until after their baby arrives.
The most important step?
Put your baby to the breast as early as possible after birth.
The more your baby suckles, the stronger your milk supply becomes.
Remember, in those first few days, your baby doesn’t need large amounts of milk. Those precious drops of colostrum are packed with nutrients and infection-fighting antibodies.
Did you notice milk before your baby was born or did it only come after delivery?
