Q: Good evening, ma’am. Please, is it too early for a 3-month old baby to use teething drugs?
A: It’s not so much about whether it’s early but more about whether it should be given at all. Please don’t.
If your baby is teething, use a clean wash cloth wrapped around your finger to help massage the area. Or buy a teething ring and give your baby. If refrigerated, it helps cool and calm the area.
Paracetamol is helpful if baby is running a fever but remember that fever is not a regular feature of teething. This only happens from bacterial infections from babies picking up dirty things and putting them in their mouths.
Teething powders and solutions haven’t been proven to help teething and may actually contain some substances that could be injurious to the baby.
